Catananche caerulea (Cupids Dart)
A favourite, first year flowering cottage garden perennial with long lasting blooms on tall slender stems. Perfect for sunny borders and as fresh or dried cut flowers. Winner of an Royal Horticultural Society, Award of Garden Merit for reliability and good performance Plants form a low clump of narrow grey-green leaves, the flowers appearing on upright stems in summer. Remove faded blooms to encourage more buds to form. Better known as cupids dart, this plant produces attractive, look lasting cornflower like blooms in summer. ''Major'' is particularly good as the flowers have a lovely dark blue eye, surrounded by lighter blue petals. Can be used in en-masses in prairie style plantings, mixed with grasses, Echinacea.
